If you are looking for a vehicle that will last through the years, an Audi is one of the best choices available. The Audi has a reputation for being well-built, safe, reliable and made from high quality materials and Audi parts. In fact, mechanical problems with this car are very rare.

Like all cars, though, normal wear and tear is something that can't be avoided. When you decide to purchase an Audi, be sure you know what common repairs you should expect, how often routine maintenance is performed, and what car parts you will most commonly need.

Common Problems With the Audi

Although the Audi is extremely reliable, we've compiled a list of the most common problems that Audi owners report. This should help you price out Audi parts so there's no surprises in your future.

  • Electrical Components

In newer Audi models, the most common problem reported is with electrical components. Unfortunately, this is not limited to one specific issue. Electrical components that need replacing can affect your power window motor, trip display, and brake lights. Fortunately, if you repair these issues as soon as they develop, the cost is minimal for most repairs. If your trip display, which displays the time, remaining fuel, and outside temperature, goes out, however, the entire instrument will have to be replaced, which can be costly.
  • Timing Belt

Most Audi parts will run perfectly for years if regular maintenance is provided. The timing belt is a common car part indicating wear. Always have it checked, especially if you hear any unusual noises. If you continue driving a worn timing belt, a relatively inexpensive replacement Audi part could turn into a very expensive repair. If your timing belt breaks while you are driving, it could cause the valves to hit the pistons, resulting in unnecessary damage. Don’t assume that your timing belt is fine simply because it was changed recently. If it was not installed correctly, the timing belt could be rubbing and wearing down each and every time you drive.
  • Oil Consumption

Some of the newer Audi models with 2 litre turbo charged engines have reported higher oil consumption than one might expect. To fix this problem, you may simply need a new crankcase valve that regulates oil pressure. However, if you choose to have this pressure valve installed, you must also replace the crankshaft seal. Of course, an Audi mechanic can give you more information on oil consumption remedies, but it's good to be aware that others experience this issue as well.

The Audi is a fantastic car with a solid reputation of being built to last. However, it is still a car and will need occasional replacement car parts and regular professional maintenance to keep it running it's best. Before purchasing your next (or your first) Audi, be sure you understand what Audi parts you may need and what common problems have occurred with these cars so you'll be prepared for anything that might go wrong.
