In 1993, Vauxhall launched a little supermini known as the Corsa. Because this car is so inexpensive to purchase, tax, insure, and run, it is still popular to this day among first time car buyers and those seeking to purchase a second car for their families.

The second and third generations of this Vauxhall have been even more popular, with the Mk2 coming out in 2000 and the third generation Corsa making an appearance in 2006. Each generation offers car owners various benefits, but they also suffer from some common, and sometimes serious, problems as well. Let’s take a look.

Common Issues With Vauxhall Parts and the Corsa

  • Airbags (2000-2006 models)- Several owners of these models have reported issues with the front airbags. Because of these problems, the child seat safety cradle may not function the way it is so supposed to with the front airbag deactivation function. This is most often caused by faulty software that will need to be repaired or replaced by a professional.

  • Seat Adjuster (2000-2006 models)- In the Corsa’s second general model, the longitudinal adjuster spring latch often becomes weak over time and fails to work properly. This means that the seat won’t lock in place, affecting the driver’s ability to control the car and the safety of backseat passengers. If this problem occurs in your Corsa, the spring latch will most likely need to be replaced.

  • Water Ingress (2006 to present models)- Many Corsas built after 2006 experience water ingress problems. When this occurs, water uses the ground wiring connexion to enter the ABS connector. Because of this, car parts like the ABS could be affected, resulting in overheating and possible fires.

  • Steering Wheels (2004 models)- Some Vauxhall Corsas built in 2004 had issues with the steering wheels becoming too wobbly and loose to function correctly. It was discovered that the cause of this problem was a centre screw that was not tightened as tightly as it should have been. Because this can lead to imprecise steering, this can be very dangerous if not taken care of immediately.

  • Braking Problems (2008, 2009, 2011 models)- Braking problems are a big issue with the Vauxhall Corsa. 2008 models had problems related to an incorrect amount of hydraulic oil in the ABS/ESP modulator. Models build in March 2011 and September 2009 had issues as well, but these were mainly related to the brake pedal bearings. These bearings weren’t made with the correct materials, and because the materials they were made from were so weak, they could break under pressure. Both of these situations are extremely hazardous. If you own a model from these years, have your Corsa inspected immediately to see if any Vauxhall parts need to be replaced to ensure your safety.

  • Ignition (2006 to present models)- Are you having a hard time getting your engine to start the first time you turn the key in the ignition? You aren’t alone. Several Corsas have had this problem, and it often indicates that the ignition needs to be replaced.

Faulty Car Parts And Your Corsa

Having some problems with your Corsa? It may be time to take it in to see a reputable mechanic who can determine if certain Vauxhall parts need to be repaired or replaced. While this car is popular and costs very little to maintain, it, like many other cars, may need some extra attention in order to function the way you need it to.
