When you’re looking for an SUV that will be good looking and spacious enough to rival the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan or the Ford Kuga, you’re looking for the Vauxhall Antara. It’s updated interior, lifetime warranty for replacement car parts and repairs, and new engine make it a car that many drivers would love to have.

Despite this, it does have its problems. Before you sign on to own a new Vauxhall Antara, consider first the pros and cons associated with it.

Pros:

  • Practicality- Like many other SUVs, the Antara has an interior that is functional and practical, with plenty of space for both kids and adults- even in the rear.
  • Reliability and Safety- While the Antara hasn’t gone through the Euro NCAP crash test, the car company must have a lot of confidence its Vauxhall parts to offer a 100,000 mile lifetime warranty. This means you shouldn’t expect to have to pay much out of pocket for replacement car parts or repairs to damaged or recalled Vauxhall parts.
  • Start-Stop Technology- Want to conserve as much fuel as possible and enjoy a greener, cleaner car? The Vauxhall Antara has exactly what you need. It comes with start-stop technology on most models, which means the engine is automatically cut off when the car comes to a stop. When you push in on the throttle, it starts again. This cuts down on the amount of fuel you have purchase and increases its economy to 42.2mpg from 33.2mpg in models that don’t have this technology.

Cons:

  • Boot Space- Compared to its rivals, the Antara has very little boot space to speak of. Without only 370 litres with the seats up and 1,420 litres with the seats down, it doesn’t compare well. The Ford Kruga has 442 litres and expands to 1,928 litres and the Volkswagen Tiguan has 470 litres of boot space that expands to 1,510 litres.
  • Comfort- While at first it might appear as if the Antara will be a comfortable ride, due to its soft suspension, it actually isn’t. You might not feel a jolt when you drive over a bump or pothole like you would with a stiffer suspension, but you’ll find that this particular model bounces quite a bit. The diesel engine is rather rough as well, making it fairly noisy, especially when travelling at higher speeds on the motorway.
  • Drive- Whether you choose the manual or automatic gearbox, you’re likely to have a few problems with the Antara. It’s awkward and clumsy selecting the gears in the manual, and the time it takes to switch gears in the automatic is too long. The steering isn’t as responsive as it could be either, making it difficult to drive.

Are you looking for a new car? While its lifetime warranty may help you pay for any replacement Vauxhall parts that this car needs, think carefully before selecting it as your new choice of car. There are some definite downsides to owning an Antara, and you’ll need to weigh the pros and cons before deciding if it’s for you.
