The Peugeot 107. It’s a city car that’s competitively prices, economical, cheap to insure, and offers free road tax. It has a nice resale value, and is popular as a second-hand car. While these may seem like attractive qualities, when it comes to your family, your biggest concern is safety and reliability. Will the 107 be the perfect car for you or will you constantly be replacing car parts and worrying about how safe your family is when you’re on the road?

The Peugeot 107. It’s a city car that’s competitively prices, economical, cheap to insure, and offers free road tax. It has a nice resale value, and is popular as a second-hand car. While these may seem like attractive qualities, when it comes to your family, your biggest concern is safety and reliability. Will the 107 be the perfect car for you or will you constantly be replacing car parts and worrying about how safe your family is when you’re on the road?

Problems With Peugeot Parts

  • Leak in Boot- The boot lid on the 107 is all glass, and because of this, many Peugeot owners have complained of leaks around the seal and into the boot. When caught early, this problem isn’t too hazardous, as it only requires £50 or so to replace and may be under warranty. However, if you don’t happen to use the boot often and fail to see the leak, water may stand in the boot for days or even weeks, resulting in rust that could spread to other areas of the car and Peugeot parts. This issue then becomes much more expensive to repair.

  • Clutch Issues- One of the more common issues 107 owners experience is problems with the clutch. The clutch goes out on most at about 20,000 miles, and can cost anywhere from £450 to £600 to replace. Most often, this is not covered under the warranty so the cost of new car parts and labour will come out of your pocket.

  • Impact Safety- The exterior of the 107 is made of cheap-looking plastic material, and this definitely has an impact on how safe you feel behind the wheel. In addition, the safety rating from Euro NCAP of three stars, reduced from the four-star rating in 2012, doesn’t help. The rating is said to be because of the stricter testing criteria NCAP has developed, but many other rival city cars have still been able to maintain their five-star rating despite this.

Is the Peugeot 107 Right for Your Family?

When it comes to your family, you only want the best, and that might mean you have to say no when it comes to purchasing the Peugeot 107. While it’s fun, cute, and cheap to drive, it doesn’t offer the peace of mind that every parent needs for their children.

If you decide to purchase the Peugeot 107, however, be aware of the Peugeot parts you may need to replace, and understand that the standard warranty for the 107 is only three years. This means that if you only drive in the city, your warranty is likely to be over before common problems like a leaking seal at the rear window and a non-functioning clutch appear.

Don’t be surprised either if you get behind the wheel and feel very vulnerable and unsafe next to SUVs and lorries. The car is small, and its low safety rating can impact the way it feels behind the wheel.

Consider all of your options very carefully before you decide whether the Peugeot 107 is the best choice for you.
